What is This Workshop About?
Holistic Decision Making (HDM) is a whole-oriented approach to clarifying and actualising what is important to you and to any collaboration you are part of. Its main phases are:
- revealing and articulating core purpose and values
- noticing how true these things are now
- deciding and acting to reliably, sustainably and continuously close the gap between the two
- seeking and using feedback to stay on track
HDM shines a bright light on the solo and group dynamics of daily decision making and the ruts we so often get sucked into.
It shares a way to harness the power of the decisions we make to authentically express uniqueness while growing the potential of ourselves and the collaborations we are involved in. For this reason, HDM has also been described as regenerative decision making.
As well as supporting individuals to start working with Holistic Decision Making on an individual level, this workshop will build leadership and facilitation capacity to use Holistic Decision Making with communities, businesses, and organisations.
“Undertaking the Holistic Decision Making training with Dan Palmer revolutionised not just our farming business but our personal lives as well and it is that fact that makes the training so powerful. Without deeply evaluating why you farm, which is a personal decision, you can not make truly effective farm business decisions. We gained such clarity on our sense of personal and farming purpose that it allowed us to evaluate some very big decisions with a super clear focus on what we truly wanted. Dan is an amazing facilitator, funny, empathetic and above all genuinely concerned with helping people make better decisions. I would go as far to say that this training no only improved our business, it improved our marriage too!” ~ Charlie Showers and Jade Miles, Black Farm Barn
You will likely leave this workshop hungry to go back into your life and decide your way directly toward what most brings you and your projects alive, while supporting those you live and work with to do the same.
“Going through the holistic decision making process was priceless for both personal life and a future business. Using that approach changes everything and gives me a lot of confidence going forward” ~ Erika Hildegard
The workshop will cover:
- The entire approach clearly explained using examples, props, games and practical exercises both together and apart
- Creating what we call a ‘context’ for yourself that captures your core values along with what must be done and nurtured to achieve them.
- Using that context to filter decisions and take actions based on their relevance to this context.
- Seeking and using feedback to actualise, maintain, and evolve your context.
“I had a feeling the workshop would be a complete game changer for me and oh boy, has it been. I feel like my fog of overwhelm has been lifted, and I’ve so much more head and heart space to be present in my life. I was a completely different Mum yesterday purely because I knew I was exactly where I needed to be, doing exactly what I was needing to be doing, and whenever I started to stray off course I could come back to centre because I actually knew where centre was!!! Rather than just having a vague unpleasant sense of being generally off alignment. I really feel there’s no going back for me now. Thank you a billion times over Dan. It’s such a gift to know you and be able to learn from you.” ~ Angela
About Dan Palmer
Dan Palmer is a founder of Permablitz, Designing for Life, Holistic Decision Making, Making Permaculture Stronger and Very Edible Gardens. He has a PhD in systems thinking and contagious levels of enthusiasm for supporting the journeys of others. He currently lives with his wife and two daughters in Castlemaine, Central Victoria.
Holistic decision making is something Dan finds invaluable and integral in his personal and family life, and also in his work as a permaculture designer and educator. Dan uses a variety of facilitation tools to create an adaptive space in which all participants give each other permission to share openly and to support each other in understanding and applying their shared learnings.
Note: It can be difficult to start practicing HDM from within your current comfort zone (especially if that involves trying to merely think your way to what you really want, or letting your circumstances or other people make most of your decisions for you). At times, therefore, this workshop may invite you to step a little outside your comfort zone, all inside a safe, professionally facilitated environment. Please get in touch before booking if you have any questions or concerns about this and whether this experience will be a good fit for you.
“Doing Dan’s holistic decision making workshop is like having kids – no one can tell you what it is going to be like in advance, but it totally transforms your life for the better!” ~ Jeremy
