Last week we revisited the Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden install we did at Auburn South Primary School in Hawthorn East back in February (see details here).  It’s looking great and the beds are being managed to their full potential as you can see in the photos below.  Wonderfully they don’t have a problem with white cabbage moth caterpillars because the little girls come down at lunch time and pick them off the cabbages for fun!  Stay tuned as in a few weeks we’ll be returning to add a full chook-powered orchard system (house, strawyard and two runs) and completing a hoop archway over the beds to support espaliered apples.  With the new kitchen and deck being finished it is going to be a lovely space to be a kid learning about growing, harvesting and preparing delicious, nutritious food!
