Yesterday was a big one. We (Adam & Dan) started with a four-hour design consult in Forest Hill. Then Adam was off to help judge the winner of the Whitehorse Council Permaculture Blitz competition while Dan had the pleasure of returning to Pam’s place in Kew that we designed and permaculturised about five months back. Pam had taken this beautiful photo of her chooks (which we raised from one-week-olds in Dan’s backyard) and now-established pond which includes a healthy school of native fish which devour the mosquito larvae. The pond is integrated with the garden in many ways, such as the fruit tree irrigation system flushing into the pond when periodically cleaned out, and the pond overflowing into a subsurface fruit tree irrigation trench under the chookrun/orchard. That’s Lebanese cress in the foregound. Yes, of course it’s edible! Thanks for sharing the photo Pam, not to mention the muffins!
Here’s Pam’s vegie beds freshly finished…
And five months later…
And here’s her young front-yard food forest underway…
After Pam’s we picked up some fruit trees and seedlings for the next day’s job, then popped out to Tom and Bronwyn’s place in Eltham to help them with a little problem. Their point-of-lay Isa Browns were jumping over the brand new 1.3m fence we built around their run! Scissors in hand we performed a little (completely harmless) wing clipping surgery and so far they have not escaped again. Here’s a photo of their (king-size) run – the lucky ladies!
Next out to North Warrandyte to help design a very steep and complex 2000 sm block with a 5-ton excavator already at work! Finally home via the warehouse to pick up the VEG trailer and tools for tomorrow’s job. Yes, we do sleep well at night thank you very much!
